15 Immigrants Arrested for Criminal Activity in Border

(DailyChive.com) – Texas State Troopers detained and arrested 15 illegal aliens on charges of criminal trespass in Eagle Pass on Saturday, February 10, marking another step in the state’s efforts to tighten border security. The arrests, which took place near Shelby Park, echo Governor Greg Abbott’s ongoing clash with the Biden administration over immigration policy.

These detentions occurred in the same area where Abbott previously replaced federal border agents deployed by the Biden administration with state authorities. His objective was to strengthen security along the US-Mexico border.

The detained individuals, citizens of Nicaragua and El Salvador, were transported to jail after their arrest and await further legal proceedings. According to the spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety, Lieutenant Chris Olivarez, each person faces potential imprisonment of up to twelve months if convicted.

This development fuels the tension between Texas and the Biden administration regarding the state’s proactive border security measures. Governor Abbott has implemented various strategies to circumvent the federal approach in response to what Texas officials perceive as lax national policies. One such strategy, a recently enacted law, empowers all state law enforcement personnel to arrest immigrants who enter the United States illegally. This policy enabled Texas State Troopers to detain the individuals in question for illegal presence within the state.

Earlier this year, the Texas National Guard took control of Shelby Park, a focal point in Eagle Pass frequently exploited by undocumented immigrants traversing the Rio Grande River into the United States.

However, this move drew legal scrutiny from the Biden administration, resulting in a case before the US Supreme Court, which they won against the state. Despite the loss, Governor Abbott remained defiant and resolute in his commitment to safeguarding his state’s border. He invoked the invasion clause within the US Constitution, asserting Texas’s authority in the matter.

However, since Governor Abbott deployed National Guard troops and removed federal agents, the area’s average daily number of illegal crossings has significantly reduced, going from thousands to just three or four per day.
