22-Year-Old DNC Delegate Flips to Republican Side

(DailyChive.com) – A 22-year-old former Democratic National Convention (DNC) delegate named Audrey McNeal has announced that she’s leaving the Democratic Party. In a video posted on social media last Friday, McNeal revealed her plan to vote for former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance, in the upcoming election on November 5, according to a report by the Daily Caller.

McNeal, who was one of the youngest DNC delegates at age 18, represented her district at the DNC conventions in both 2020 and 2024. Now, she’s made a surprising choice to back Trump instead of President Biden or the Democratic ticket.

In her video, McNeal explains her decision, saying, “In 2020, I was elected as a delegate to the DNC, and in 2024, I returned. But this year, I’m voting for Donald Trump.” She shared that when she joined the DNC, she wanted answers on critical issues like free speech, border security, and the economy. However, after her time at the convention, she felt that the Democratic Party no longer stood for free speech and civil liberties as it once did.

McNeal quoted Founding Father Patrick Henry to make her point. Henry once said, “The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be secure when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them.” According to McNeal, the Democratic Party’s recent choices reflect hidden agendas. Specifically, she felt betrayed by party leaders who she believes bypassed millions of Americans, including delegates like herself, by pushing Kamala Harris as the presidential candidate without open debate. As a result, she has decided to join the Republican Party, calling herself a “constitutional conservative.”

Interestingly, McNeal isn’t the only former Democrat making this shift. Recently, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, another ex-Democrat, publicly declared her decision to join the GOP at a Trump rally in Greensboro, North Carolina. In her speech, Gabbard expressed her admiration for Trump’s leadership and his efforts to make the GOP the “party of the people” and “common sense.”

By referencing Patrick Henry, McNeal underscored her belief that the Democratic Party has strayed from foundational American values, while she now feels the Republican Party aligns more closely with her views on personal liberty and transparent government.

McNeal’s decision reflects a broader trend among Gen Z voters who are reconsidering their political affiliations in light of issues such as free speech, national security, and economic policies.
