(DailyChive.com) – Former CNN correspondent Brian Stelter claimed that Donald Trump is likely to punish the media should he win the presidential elections.
Stelter was responding to Rachel Maddow’s comments, who suggested that Trump is planning to “build camps” for his political rivals after winning the possible second term.
Although Stelter did not agree with Maddow completely, he indicated that even Trump’s allies have suggested that he can go to any length to prosecute liberal media outlets. According to Stelter, just like the Obama administration went against conservative organizations using the IRS, it is reasonable to assume that Trump will also use different government agencies against anti-Trump media networks.
Apart from Maddow, Stelter continued, even CEOs and other top officials of different media organizations are worried about the consequences of Trump’s second term. The former CNN journalist said that no one from the media is afraid to go to jail after Trump’s victory, but they are just curious about what lies ahead.
He further noted that history is full of people who came into power by pushing this type of agenda, adding that there is no guarantee that the camps which Trump is planning to build for immigrants will only be used for them.
Stelter was fired from CNN when Chris Licht took over as the CEO of the news organization and restructured the whole company, which resulted in mass layoffs.
Anti-Trump political figures and journalists have consistently maintained that Trump plans to throw dissidents in jail after securing victory in the November elections. While the former president has indicated that he has every right to follow that path, he has also claimed that it is dangerous for the very existence of the United States.
Some journalists have also compared Trump with notable dictators of the world, including Hitler and Stalin. Former CNN anchor Marvin Kalb has previously stated that all of these men called the media “fake news”, just like Trump, and it was their strategy to denounce the legitimacy of the media.
