(DailyChive.com) – Almost 2,700 people have been arrested so far in the wake of anti-Israel protests that have swept colleges across America in recent weeks.
Since the beginning of the protests on April 18, law enforcement has arrested students at almost 43 different colleges across the country.
While most colleges tried to avoid confrontation with protesters in the beginning, they are now forced to take decisive action as the protesters are resorting to more and more violence with every passing day.
The police have also removed encampments from various colleges, while different universities threatened students with possible suspension and expulsion to curb the protests.
However, these demonstrations are still far from over. Even after calling the police on its New York campus and dispersing the troubling protesters, Columbia University canceled its college-wide commencement ceremony scheduled on May 15.
Multiple colleges, including Columbia, Yale and NYU, have shifted their classes to online video for the safety of their Jewish students.
Different politicians have also expressed their thoughts on the rising protests and the associated arrests. Former President Donald Trump praised the New York Police Department for arresting what he called “lunatic” students. Trump called the police officers “great people” and slammed the FBI director for not taking enough measures to quell the demonstrations.
Many conservative politicians, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, have also asked for the resignation of the administrators who are unable to control the protests.
Meanwhile, far-left Congresswoman AOC slammed the NYPD for using its antiterrorism squad to curb the protests at Columbia University.
Almost all the anti-Israel protesters want their colleges to divest from Israel and cut off any financial ties with companies related to Israel.
While some universities, like Columbia, have refused to surrender to the protesters’ demands, others have reached an agreement with the protesters by showing their willingness to divest from Israel.
As the tensions continue to escalate in the Middle East, college students have also started their demonstrations in other countries like the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada.
