Attack Claims 8 Lives, Injures 2,800

(DailyChive.com) – On Tuesday, a Lebanese minister announced that eight people were killed and about 2,800 were injured in a strange explosion. The attack seemed to specifically target Hezbollah members, focusing on the pagers they used for communication, which exploded almost simultaneously.

According to The Times of Israel, Lebanon’s health minister confirmed the death toll and added that around 200 of the injured were in serious condition. Hezbollah, a major political and military group in Lebanon, reported that two of their members were among those killed. Tragically, the daughter of a Hezbollah fighter also lost her life when a pager exploded inside her parents’ home.

Pictures and videos shared on social media showed disturbing scenes. Men were shown with severe wounds, especially in their stomachs and chests, which were believed to be caused by the exploding pagers. It remains unclear who was behind the explosions, but many suspect foul play. The detonations occurred almost at the same time on Tuesday, adding to the mystery of how the devices could have been tampered with on such a wide scale.

There’s speculation that Hezbollah may have stopped using more advanced mobile phones after Israel assassinated Fuad Shukr, Hezbollah’s second-in-command, back in July. Some think the group downgraded to pagers for safety, believing they would be harder to track. It’s unknown exactly how these pagers were hacked, but there’s been widespread talk that malware might have been planted on them. This malware, some suspect, could have caused the lithium batteries in the pagers to overheat, leading to the explosions. While Israel has not been confirmed as the culprit, rumors persist.

The explosions didn’t just hit Lebanon. Reports suggest that similar attacks occurred in Syria, where both Hezbollah and Iran are involved in military operations. The Iranian ambassador to Lebanon was also hurt in the attack. Among the dead was the son of a Hezbollah member who is part of Lebanon’s parliament.

This incident adds more pressure to the already volatile situation in the region, where Hezbollah, Iran, and Israel have long been in conflict. If Israel was responsible, it could mark a new kind of warfare, one that targets basic technology like pagers, which were once considered too old to be hacked. For now, the world waits to see what will happen next as tensions remain high.
