Authorities Arrest Immigrant in Toddler Homicide Case

(DailyChive.com) – The Prince George’s County Police Department arrested a 25-year-old illegal alien on February 25. Authorities believe the suspect, Nilson Noel Trejo-Granados, is connected to the February 8 murder of Jeremy Poou-Caceres.

The 2-year-old boy and his mother were caught in the crossfire of a shootout between rival groups in Langley Park, Maryland. Despite medical efforts, Jeremy died from his injuries, and his death deeply saddened the community. However, thankfully, his mother is expected to recover fully.

Trejo-Granados is the fifth suspect arrested in this case. Four others, including two juveniles aged 15 and 16 whose names are withheld due to their age, were previously apprehended. However, police declined to comment on Trejo-Granados’ alleged involvement, citing the ongoing investigation.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed Trejo-Granados is an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador with a deportation order issued in November 2022. Additionally, ICE revealed that Montgomery County Detention Center released Trejo-Granados twice in 2023 despite receiving detainer requests. These requests ask local authorities to hold individuals subject to deportation until federal authorities can take custody. The reasons behind these releases are under investigation.

During the bail review hearing, Trejo-Granados’ attorney argued for his release, claiming he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, Assistant State’s Attorney Giovanna Miller countered by highlighting his history of missing court appearances and using aliases. Ultimately, Judge Donnaka Varner Lewis sided with the prosecution, deeming Trejo-Granados a flight risk and ordering him to be held without bail.

As expected, this recent incident has reignited concerns over illegal immigration in the United States. According to sources, over 7.2 million people have entered the country illegally since President Joe Biden took office. Biden’s handling of border security has become a major talking point, especially in light of the upcoming rematch between him and former President Donald Trump in the fall’s general election.

The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data has shown a significant rise in encounters with criminal illegal immigrants at the U.S. border under the current administration.
