Biden Admin Spends $700 Million on Migrant Settlement

(DailyChive.com) – Since 2021, the Biden administration has funneled around $750 million into resettling migrants across North Carolina. This spending has raised eyebrows, especially as many Americans in the state struggle with jobs, housing, and education. It’s even more frustrating for some locals, considering the government’s response to the deadly Hurricane Helene, which devastated parts of Asheville. Victims of that disaster were offered only a fast-track loan of $750 each— a stark contrast to the millions being spent on migrant services.

A significant portion of the funds—$536 million—has gone towards operating a massive 800-bed refugee reception center in Greensboro. This is all managed by the Administration for Children and Families, a department that’s supposed to prioritize the welfare of American families. Other grants have been given to non-profits and local governments to provide a variety of services for refugees, including housing, healthcare, welfare benefits, and legal assistance.

RandoLand.us, a website tracking this spending, reports that over $221 million in grants have been directed to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, along with religious and non-religious organizations that assist in resettling refugees. According to the site, more than 3,400 migrants were resettled in North Carolina in 2024 alone. These refugees come from countries like Venezuela, the Congo, Burma, and Afghanistan, and each one requires expensive support to help them integrate into American society.

Interestingly, this large sum only accounts for the aid given to refugees, not the other categories of migrants that the Biden administration continues to welcome. Experts estimate that the Department of Health and Human Services alone has spent around $30 billion nationwide on migrant-related programs since 2021.

While the Biden administration pours billions into migrant resettlement, it has left many Americans wondering when they’ll get the help they desperately need. From housing to education, the government’s priorities appear misaligned with the struggles facing ordinary citizens, leaving many to question why so much is being done for migrants while Americans are left behind.

This spending has raised concerns as many Americans in North Carolina continue to face economic challenges without sufficient government assistance.
