(DailyChive.com) – The Biden/Harris administration is planning to modify the Supreme Court with a selection of new laws and practices but Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch has a warning: be careful.
During a brief discussion with conservative media, Gorsuch called the idea of modifying the court a “political issue” and highlighted the current election cycle miasma as heavily influencing the discussion. He additionally suggested the importance of having an independent judiciary, especially one that issues unpopular decisions or allows controversial individuals to bring their concerns forward for a fair hearing.
Gorsuch said that the independence of the court was paramount, highlighting that it exists to protect the rights of individuals being pursued by the government. He added that the court needs to be “ferociously independent” and suggested Democrats “be careful” attempting to modify or alter the court to get their way.
Biden and Harris have each called on Congress to enact term limits as well as a new code of conduct upon the high court. They’ve been very upset about the court overturning Roe v. Wade in 2022. Subsequent decisions limiting the potential of federal agencies to interpret the law as they see fit, as well as affirming presidential immunity for official acts while in office have enraged the Democrats, inspiring them to retaliate with threats and character assassination. .
Gorsuch also discussed the problem of having too many laws and an overly complicated tax code which criminalizes thousands of Americans, many without their knowledge of the laws they’re breaking. Gorsuch is the author of “Over Ruled: The Human Toll of Too Much Law,” so he’s very concerned about the potential to overly legislate things like the tax code. He told viewers that during his 18 years as a judge, he saw numerous instances of regular Americans “getting whacked by laws” they had no idea they had broken.
Gorsuch also highlighted an incident with the IRS tip line. He said that there was a problem with them giving out the wrong information nearly a third of the time.
Gorsuch suggested that the solution to an overly complicated system is to get back to the Constitution. He complained that too often people were resorting to the legal system to solve their problems.
