(DailyChive.com) – Firebrand Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert has announced that she’s abandoning her current district, accusing Hollywood actors Barbra Streisand and Ryan Reynolds of orchestrating her electoral woes. Boebert, known for her penchant for conspiracy theories and “Beetlejuice” fandom, made these claims on Steve Bannon’s “War Room” show over the weekend.
Despite narrowly winning re-election in 2022 by a mere 546 votes against Democrat Adam Frisch, Boebert is opting out of a rematch. Instead, she’s setting her sights on a safer Republican seat in a neighboring district, blaming Streisand and Reynolds’ financial influence for her strategic retreat.
Boebert, who has raised $2.4 million compared to Frisch’s impressive $7.7 million, attributes the disparity in campaign funds to the Hollywood duo. However, a closer look at Federal Election Commission records reveals that Reynolds contributed $1,500 in 2023, while Streisand donated $1,000, making up a minimal fraction of Frisch’s overall financial support.
On Bannon’s show, Boebert declared in an emotional plea, “We have to shut down the Hollywood elites who are trying to buy my current district.” Despite this strong rhetoric, Boebert’s solution involves leaving her current battleground to contest the seat currently held by outgoing Representative Ken Buck, who has chosen not to seek re-election. This strategic move positions Boebert in what is widely considered a safer Republican stronghold.
The chairman of Colorado’s Republican Party, Dave Williams, expressed reservations about Rep. Lauren Boebert’s decision to switch to a less competitive congressional district. Speaking with CNN’s Brianna Keilar on Thursday, Williams said, “From a party perspective, we don’t think it was the best move. We believe she had the best chance of winning re-election in District 3, which would have benefited Republicans.”
Williams noted that Boebert now faces a significant challenge in explaining to the voters of CD 4 why she found it necessary to leave CD 3 for a potentially better chance at securing her congressional seat. He acknowledged, “It’s a complex situation, but ultimately, it’s up to the voters to decide.”
