Boost in Morale at Border Patrol and ICE Following Trump’s Win

(DailyChive.com) – Former Acting ICE Director Tom Homan has been chosen by President-elect Donald Trump as the next “border czar,” a move that has sparked optimism among Border Patrol and ICE agents. Trump’s campaign focused heavily on border security, and Homan’s appointment signals a firm commitment to tackling the challenges at the southern border.

During an interview on Fox & Friends, Homan expressed his readiness to take action. “I’ve been vocal for years about what’s wrong at the border and what needs fixing,” he said. “When the president asked me to step in, I couldn’t say no. It’s time to solve this crisis.”

Illegal crossings have surged under the current administration, with nearly 3 million recorded in 2024 alone, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Since 2021, more than 10.8 million illegal encounters have occurred. Many blame relaxed immigration policies for creating an environment that encourages unlawful entry.

Homan has vowed to prioritize the deportation of individuals posing public safety or national security threats. When asked if this would separate families, Homan clarified, “Families can be deported together.” This aligns with Trump’s plan to implement mass deportations while addressing safety concerns.

Border agents have described the shift in leadership as a “night and day” difference. One ICE officer in Massachusetts said, “Morale is finally up. It feels like the storm is over, and we can start making real progress.”

The National Border Patrol Council echoed these sentiments. President Paul Perez noted, “Agents are overjoyed. Some who planned to retire are staying because they want to serve under this administration again. They know what to expect, and they trust the leadership.”

Many agents are also excited about moving away from politically correct language, such as referring to illegal immigrants as “noncitizens.” A senior ICE official explained, “We feel like we can get back to doing the jobs we signed up for—protecting public safety and going after criminals.”

Homan’s return has been described as a morale boost for a workforce eager to enforce stricter border policies. Whether his leadership will lead to lasting change remains to be seen, but for now, agents are hopeful.

With Trump’s plans in motion, the border debate is once again front and center in American politics.
