Capitol Restrooms to be Gender-Specific, Declares Speaker Johnson

(DailyChive.com) – House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) made a firm announcement on Wednesday about restroom use in the House of Representatives, stating that people must use facilities that match their biological sex.

“All single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House Office Buildings – such as restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms – are reserved for individuals of that biological sex,” Johnson said. He emphasized that members also have private restrooms in their offices, and unisex restrooms are available elsewhere in the Capitol. “Women deserve women’s only spaces,” he added All single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House Office Buildings are reserved for individuals of that biological sex.

When pressed by a reporter about whether this policy could actually be enforced, Johnson stood firm. “Like all House policies, it’s enforceable,” he said. He reiterated his stance, explaining, “We have single-sex facilities for a reason, and women deserve women’s only spaces. We are not anti-anyone; we are pro-woman. This has always been an unwritten policy, and now it’s in writing” Johnson emphasized that the policy is enforceable.

Johnson’s move follows the introduction of a bill by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) earlier this week. The legislation seeks to prevent Members, officers, and employees in the House from using single-sex facilities that do not match their biological sex. After refining the bill, Mace renamed it the “Protecting Women’s Private Spaces Act,” and shared it with The Daily Wire.

The bill aims to restrict anyone from using single-sex facilities on federal property unless it aligns with their biological sex. Speaking on The Michael Knowles Show, Mace defended her legislation, calling it a common-sense measure that shouldn’t stir controversy. “Independent voters and even Democrats are with us on this issue,” she said, referring to widespread frustrations over what she called “crazy gender ideology” being imposed across the country.

Mace made it clear that her mission goes beyond the Capitol. “I’m going to do everything I can to protect women and girls here on the Hill, but also across the nation,” she declared. “This is about a basic question: do women have rights or not? Are we going to let men bully us into submission? My answer is no.”

Despite threats she’s received, Mace said she’s undeterred. “There’s no amount of bullying that will stop me from fighting for this,” she vowed, promising to “fight like hell” to protect women’s spaces Mace’s bill aims to restrict access to single-sex facilities.
