(DailyChive.com) – House Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) has emphasized the need to pass a border deal that eliminates what he calls the “perverse incentives” driving illegal immigration, attributing this scenario to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Speaking on Sunday, February 4, Green stressed the necessity of taking strong measures to address the situation.
The Senate unveiled its much-anticipated border deal late Sunday, just before an upcoming Senate vote. This move marks a crucial moment in the ongoing immigration debate. However, Green vowed that the House would not accept the Senate’s proposal, signaling a potential showdown between the chambers.
Green asserted that he, along with Speaker Johnson, opposes any new agreement that does not eliminate the perverse incentives Mayorkas created through his unlawful agenda of mass catch-and-release and his refusal to deport those with no lawful basis to remain in the country. He aligned with fellow Republicans in firmly opposing what he sees as flawed immigration policies.
Green’s resolve comes from a comprehensive year-long investigation conducted by his committee into Mayorkas’s handling of immigration enforcement. Meanwhile, the recent referral of articles of impeachment against Mayorkas to the House reflects the seriousness of concerns regarding the enforcement of immigration laws at the border and beyond.
Furthermore, Green sharply criticized the Biden administration for failing to use existing tools to secure the border, accusing them of rolling back successful policies implemented under President Trump. He argued that meaningful progress hinges on an administration committed to upholding the law without compromise.
Vehemently opposing any deal that accepts illegal immigration as inevitable, Green stressed the need for unwavering commitment to law enforcement. He warned against concessions to open-borders advocates, arguing that such compromises would only worsen the challenges those seeking better border security faced.
Green pointed out that Congress, with bipartisan support, had given the executive branch all the authority needed to enforce the law and secure the border. He emphasized the broad congressional backing for stricter immigration measures and cautioned against further concessions. He further argued that they would encourage criminals and undermine efforts to address the ongoing border crisis.
