(DailyChive.com) – Colorado’s Democratic Governor, Jared Polis, has dismissed concerns over a viral video that seems to show armed gang members from Venezuela in an apartment building. Despite evidence, the governor called these worries “imagination.” This response didn’t sit well with Aurora City Council member Danielle Jurinsky, who expressed her disappointment.
Polis’ spokeswoman, Shelby Wieman, clarified the governor’s stance, saying that the state is ready to help the Aurora Police Department if needed. Wieman added that the situation, based on police intelligence, appears to be more in Jurinsky’s imagination than reality.
The video in question shows several armed men in an Aurora apartment, which some believe has been taken over by members of a dangerous Venezuelan gang called Tren de Aragua. Jurinsky has been actively involved in addressing the issue. In fact, she helped evacuate several residents from a gang-occupied building.
In a Fox News interview, Jurinsky questioned Polis’ dismissal of the situation, asking if the terror faced by the people she helped is also a figment of their imagination. She promised to continue helping residents trapped in these dangerous conditions.
Wieman responded to this by saying Polis hopes city leaders focus on keeping Aurora safe rather than tearing it down. She pointed out that violent crime in the city has decreased and warned that misinformation could hurt both the local police and small businesses.
Since December 2022, over 40,000 migrants have arrived in the Denver area, many from Venezuela. Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman acknowledged the problem, noting that while the situation is real, it should not define the entire city. Coffman emphasized that these issues are happening in a few specific apartment buildings owned by an out-of-state slumlord, not across the city.
Jurinsky, however, feels the situation is being politicized, which she finds heartbreaking given the fear and suffering of the residents living under constant threat. According to her, the evidence of what’s happening is clear, despite the governor’s refusal to acknowledge it.
