(DailyChive.com) – Kathleen Sebelius, who once served as the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) under President Obama, recently sounded the alarm over the possibility of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. leading her former department. In a striking interview with MSNBC, she claimed that Kennedy’s appointment to HHS “could end up killing people,” pointing to his controversial views on vaccines.
The concern stems from Kennedy’s long-standing skepticism about vaccines, which he insists doesn’t make him “anti-vaxx.” Still, his position has sparked heated debates. Sebelius didn’t hold back her criticism, highlighting the critical role HHS plays in safeguarding public health across the country.
“This isn’t just about bad legal decisions,” she said. “This is about life and death. The HHS touches people’s lives from the moment they’re born until the day they die, and it works with every state in the nation. To lead this agency, someone must trust science. Kennedy has openly said there’s no safe and effective vaccine. That alone should disqualify him.”
Sebelius went on to express a personal fear that echoed the concerns of many parents and grandparents. “My grandson is too young to get certain vaccines. The thought of him being exposed to diseases like measles or polio, which we’ve worked so hard to eliminate, is terrifying. This isn’t just a political decision—it’s a public health crisis waiting to happen.”
Kennedy, meanwhile, continues to defend his stance. Campaigning under the slogan “Make America Health Again,” he argues that his views are widely misunderstood. At a NewsNation town hall in 2023, Kennedy pushed back on claims that his rhetoric is dangerous.
“I’ve never been anti-vaccine,” Kennedy stated. “I’ve said it hundreds of times. The problem is, vaccines aren’t tested the same way other medicines are. They should go through rigorous safety testing, but they don’t. That’s the issue I’m raising.”
As debates heat up over Kennedy’s potential leadership of HHS, the divide between science and skepticism grows more pronounced. Whether his approach would shape a healthier America or jeopardize lives remains a pressing question for the nation.
