(DailyChive.com) – Google terminated 28 employees who protested against Israel by occupying the office of the Google Cloud CEO and parts of the company’s New York building, which disrupted the business operations of the tech giant.
The protesters demanded that Google must cease its business operations with the Israeli government, including a $1.2 billion cloud computing project. This project, called Project Nimbus, is a joint venture of both Google and Amazon that are collaborating with the Israeli government to create a cloud infrastructure for their military, which has recently faced backlash for its war on Gaza.
After firing the troubling employees, Google’s vice president of global security, Chris Rackow, issued a company-wide memo in which he stated that the protesters defaced the building, halted business operations, and threatened other Googlers.
Before the termination, Google placed some protesters on administrative leave, and others were arrested after failing to leave the building. Rackow also noted that the company would not tolerate this behavior and that all employees are required to adhere to the company’s policies.
One of the now-terminated employees, Kate Sim, announced her participation in the protests through a company-wide email. Sim accused Google leadership of lying to their workers about the purpose of some projects that are actually being used to kill innocent children.
Some demonstrators occupying the California office of Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian live-streamed their protests, which also showed police arresting them after they refused to leave the premises.
The protesters also demanded that the company must stop its intimidation and harassment of Palestinian and Muslim Googlers, adding that the tech giant should also consider the health crisis of those employees who are forced to work on genocidal projects.
This termination marks the first time Google has taken stringent measures to stop rising anti-Semitic practices in the company. Previously, the Daily Wire has reported extremist incidents in the company, including words like “kill all Jews” written in bathrooms and Jewish employees being attacked.
