(DailyChive.com) – During a campaign event in New Hampshire, one of Donald Trump’s supporters surprised Nikki Haley with a somewhat strange marriage proposal, shouting from the audience, ‘Will you marry me?’
Haley, 52, currently competing for a spot on the GOP primary ticket, faced this interruption from a man in the crowd at the Artisan Hotel on Monday, January 22nd.
A man from the crowd shouted, ‘Nikki, will you marry me?’ Haley seemed surprised but laughed and responded, ‘Will you vote for me?’ To her dismay, the man jokingly offering marriage replied, ‘I’m voting for Trump.’
The 77-year-old former president is the sole contender against Haley in the state’s primary, as Ron DeSantis withdrew from the race on January 21. Boos erupted from the audience, and Haley dismissed the man before resuming her rally.
Haley aims to secure an advantage by mobilizing undeclared voters in New Hampshire’s semi-open primary through a robust ground game. Meanwhile, Trump faces an intensified challenge from Haley, his former ambassador to the United Nations, who strives to out-campaign him in a state that values direct interaction with presidential contenders.
In an electorate where GOP members lean more moderate than in deeply conservative Iowa, Haley secured all six votes. Four voters are registered Republicans, and two are independents.
The Granite State takes pride in its independent spirit, with unaffiliated voters—those eligible to vote in either the Democratic or Republican primary—outnumbering those aligned with a specific political party.
On the ballot, Trump and Haley are the sole Republican candidates, while Democrat Rep. Dean Phillips is running in the Democratic primary, excluding President Joe Biden.
A recent poll in New Hampshire revealed that many of Nikki Haley’s supporters are motivated to vote for her to oppose Donald Trump. Conversely, Trump’s supporters express their allegiance through keywords such as “Country,” “America,” or “border.”
Over half of Haley’s supporters cited their main reason for backing the former South Carolina governor as “to stop Trump.” This factor contributes to her challenge in narrowing the significant lead held by the frontrunner.
