Harris and Walz Slammed for Scripted Interview Dodging Media

(DailyChive.com) – The Harris-Walz campaign is doing its best to fight off critics as the vice president and Minnesota governor make a last-minute effort to take on former President Donald Trump after President Joe Biden dropped out, and one of the biggest criticisms against them is how scripted and rehearsed their media presence appears to be.

As Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz continue to avoid formal interviews, they recently interviewed one another. As soon as clips of that conversation were posted online, social media users started pointing out that it seemed “scripted and fake.” On top of that, Trump continues criticizing Harris in his own speeches and interviews by accusing her of avoiding the media and an inability to hold unscripted media events.

It’s been almost a month into her campaign as the Democratic nominee, and Harris has yet to participate in a sit-down interview or hold a formal press conference. Walz entered the campaign more recently but has not given any formal interviews either. Instead, the two sat down and “interviewed” one another. One conservative commentator pointed out the ridiculousness of responding “to accusations of hiding from interviews” by putting out “a scripted conversation.”

The full conversation between the two running mates will be released on Thursday, Aug. 22. The clip shared by Harris features the two candidates reminiscing about when the vice president first called Wals to inform him that she picked him to join her ticket and the Minnesota governor missed the call, which went to voicemail. “I called you, Tim,” Harris says to Walz, who plays bashful and said, “I know, I know,” and then said it was the “most important call” of his life yet he did not recognize the caller ID.

In another clip, Walz said joining the campaign was “an amazing privilege” and that he’s “excited.” In a caption over her post of the clip, Harris said she “could not imagine a better partner” than Walz.

Aside from accusations of artificiality in their mannerisms and media appearances, the two candidates have faced increased scrutiny of their backgrounds and credentials. Walz in particular is under fire for claiming on his website to have retired from the National Guard at a higher rank than he did.
