Harris Omits Trump’s Name for the First Time in Rally Speech

(DailyChive.com) – For two days now, Vice President Kamala Harris has avoided mentioning former President Donald Trump by name at her campaign rallies. With Election Day just around the corner, Harris has chosen a different approach—referring to Trump as simply “the other guy” instead. During a recent event in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Harris kicked off a day of rallies across this critical battleground state with her focus on issues rather than her opponent.

This tactic appears deliberate, as Harris has avoided mentioning Trump during other recent stops, including four events across Michigan on Sunday. In a final rally in East Lansing, she delivered a message of optimism, contrasting her tone with what she describes as Trump’s divisive rhetoric. “We have an opportunity in this election to finally turn the page on a decade of politics driven by fear and division,” Harris said. “We’re done with that. We’re ready for a fresh start where we see our fellow Americans as neighbors, not enemies.”

Harris’ campaign team has confirmed this is an intentional shift. They say the aim is to close out on a positive note, focusing on hope rather than engaging in attacks. Yet, while Harris avoids direct criticism, her supporters have been less restrained. President Biden recently weighed in during a virtual rally for Harris with Voto Latino, using the event to criticize Trump’s rhetoric. Biden also made headlines himself with his remark that “the only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters,” calling Trump’s comments about Latinos “un-American.”

Meanwhile, Trump has kept up his usual approach, directly targeting Harris in speeches across the country. During recent rallies in Pennsylvania and North Carolina, he insulted her intelligence and work ethic, calling her “lazy” and “stupid.” Trump’s words aren’t surprising to those who have followed his campaign style, but they highlight the stark contrast in tone between the two candidates.

Trump, of course, has his eyes set on Pennsylvania and Michigan—states he won in 2016 but lost in 2020. He’ll be rallying his supporters there right up to the last minute, hoping to win back these former Democratic strongholds on Election Day. With both candidates focusing on the same states, it’s clear that every vote will count.
