Heroic Pilot Dies in Animal Rescue Mission Crash

(DailyChive.com) – A tragic plane crash in New York has left a Virginia family mourning the loss of a beloved father and pilot, Seuk Kim. The 49-year-old was killed on Sunday when his small aircraft went down in the Catskill Mountains near Windham. Kim, who lived in Springfield, was flying a rescue mission to transport dogs in need of shelter and care.

Authorities reported that Kim and one of the dogs aboard the plane did not survive the crash. Another dog, a lab mix puppy, suffered two broken legs but was rescued and taken to the Capital District Veterinary Hospital. A third dog initially went missing but was later found alive with minor injuries. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the news on Monday, saying the surviving animals are now receiving medical attention.

Kim’s dedication to saving animals was well-known. He often flew rescue missions to ensure animals reached facilities where they could find safety and love. On this flight, Kim had been traveling from Harford County, Maryland, to Albany, New York.

“He died doing what he loved, which was saving animals,” Kim’s daughter, Leah, told Fox 5. Her words echo the respect and admiration many feel for Kim’s selfless work.

The sheriff’s office also clarified details about the crash. The aircraft, initially believed to be a Cessna, was identified as a Mooney M20J. The FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause of the accident, and Kim’s body has been taken to Ellis Hospital for an autopsy.

Kim’s compassion didn’t stop at animals. His Facebook posts show he volunteered during Hurricane Helene, delivering supplies to those in need in North Carolina. In one post, he described the devastation and resilience of the community, writing, “I’m honored to have been able to help a few people today and look forward to helping more.”

Seuk Kim’s life was a testament to kindness and service, whether it was helping people in disaster zones or rescuing animals in need. His loss is deeply felt by his family, friends, and the countless lives—both human and animal—that he touched.

Kim’s work in transporting dogs to safety, even in his final flight, exemplified his selfless nature. His dedication to animal rescue missions has left a lasting legacy, highlighted by the tragic accident.
