(DailyChive.com) – A Georgia man was arrested in Louisiana for allegedly killing his wife, burning her corpse, and then burying her underneath debris in a backyard.
Kenneth Hardin Junior of Fayetteville, Georgia, was arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 21, in Louisiana on charges of homicide. He’s being held in St. Tammy Parish and awaiting extradition to Georgia.
According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, a domestic dispute took place between the suspect and his wife, Carrie Hardin, at their home in Fayetteville. Hardin allegedly confessed to some of his family members that he killed Carrie, disposed of her body by burning it, and that he was going to leave town.
Deputies discovered Hardin’s story to be true when they arrived at the scene after his father contacted the sheriff’s office. Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb said there was blood in the house and that it appeared someone had tried to clean up the crime scene in a hurry.
Detectives immediately went on the hunt for Hardin and tracked his car to Covington, Louisiana. They reached out to the St. Tammy Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana State Patrol to pinpoint the vehicle’s location at a motel, where SWAT members soon arrived. They swarmed the motel and a brief standoff ensued between Hardin and law enforcement. The suspect eventually gave in and exited one of the rooms where he was holed up. They captured Hardin and he was booked at a correctional facility in St. Tammy Parish pending extradition to stand trial in Georgia.
As the hunt for Hardin was in progress, detectives at the Hardin residence continued to investigate the crime scene and search for Carrie’s body. Her body was found on Wednesday, Aug. 21, buried in a shallow grave and covered in yard debris. The grave was behind the couple’s residence in a wooded area, located on Merlin Court. Carrie’s body was partially burned and had gunshot wounds. Babb called the scene “shocking as hell,” like something that would be on a crime TV show. He said he didn’t expect what they found.
Detectives are still investigating the murder for any more possible connections or potential suspects involved.
