Illegal Immigrant Accused of Murder Escapes Arrest

(DailyChive.com) – A tragic accident in Little Rock, Arkansas, has left 48-year-old Jennifer Ann Morton dead, and the man accused of causing the crash is an illegal alien who entered the United States without being detected.

Maynor Yair Sorto-Herrera, a 30-year-old from Honduras, is now facing a long list of serious charges. He’s been charged with negligent homicide, driving under the influence, battery, reckless driving, driving without a license, violating the Concealed Weapons Act, and other traffic violations. One of the most shocking accusations is that he tried to flee the scene after the crash, which involved a head-on collision with Morton’s vehicle.

The accident took place on September 8. According to Arkansas State Police, Sorto-Herrera was driving southbound when he crossed into the northbound lane, slamming into Morton’s car. When police arrived at the scene, they found him attempting to escape. Officers caught him and took him into custody before he could get away.

This isn’t the first time Sorto-Herrera has crossed into the United States illegally. According to U.S. Border Patrol, he was first caught in October 2018 near Laredo, Texas, and was sent back to Honduras the following month. But he later managed to sneak back into the U.S. without being caught by Border Patrol agents. When this happened isn’t clear, but it led to a tragic end for Morton.

Jennifer Morton was a longtime resident of Little Rock. For 24 years, she worked as a respiratory therapist at the Arkansas Children’s Hospital, where she was known for her love and passion for taking care of children. Her obituary mentions her deep dedication to helping young patients. She leaves behind her parents, a brother, two nephews, and other family members who are grieving her sudden loss.

Sorto-Herrera is still in custody at the Pulaski County Detention Center. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed a detainer on him, requesting to take him into their custody if he is ever released from jail.

This tragedy raises deeper questions about border security and whether enough is being done to protect Americans.
