Jeffries: MAGA Republicans Must Be Stopped After Trump Assassination Attempt

(DailyChive.com) – On Sunday, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) posted on X (formerly Twitter), condemning “extreme MAGA Republicans” and saying, “We must stop them.” His statement came just an hour after former President Donald Trump survived what authorities believe was the second assassination attempt on his life.

Jeffries didn’t hold back. He accused MAGA Republicans of pushing for a national abortion ban and supporting Trump’s Project 2025, urging Americans to oppose their agenda. This declaration followed news from Trump’s campaign that the former president was safe after shots were fired near him while he was golfing in Florida.

Steven Cheung, the communications director for Trump’s campaign, confirmed in a brief statement that Trump was unharmed. At the time, few other details were given, but the shots had been fired while Trump was at his West Palm Beach golf course, Trump National Golf Club.

Later, Donald Trump Jr. shared more information. According to him, a suspect had been apprehended, and law enforcement discovered an AK-47 hidden in the bushes on the course. He emphasized that Trump was safe and thanked local law enforcement for their swift response.

Hours after the incident, the FBI announced they were investigating the shooting as a possible assassination attempt. This marked the second time someone had tried to take Trump’s life in recent months.

The first attempt occurred on July 13, during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. While Trump was delivering a speech, a gunman opened fire. Luckily, Trump turned his head at the last moment, and the bullet grazed his ear. While Trump survived, the attack tragically claimed the life of former fire chief Corey Comperatore and seriously injured two other rally-goers, David Dutch and James Copenhaver.

Following that attempt, the U.S. Secret Service faced intense criticism for its failure to protect the former president. Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned after a heated congressional hearing, where she struggled to answer tough questions about the agency’s lapses. Now, this second attempt raises even more concerns about Trump’s security.
