Jimmy Kimmel Tears Up Over Trump Victory, Criticizes Voters

(DailyChive.com) – Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel broke down in tears on Wednesday after hearing that Donald Trump won the 2024 election. Kimmel, who is famously anti-Trump, called it a “terrible day” for Americans—even for those who cast their votes for Trump.
Kimmel has often used his show to criticize Trump, regularly taking jabs at the former president with harsh jokes and sketches. But this time, he didn’t hold back his disappointment.

“It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hardworking immigrants who make this country run, for health care, for our climate, for science, for journalism, for justice, for free speech,” he told his audience, visibly emotional. His fans in Hollywood, who largely share his views, cheered him on.

Trying to find some hope in what he sees as a bleak situation, Kimmel continued, “I’ve been trying to come up with something positive”. “The best I can think of is that we survived this once before, but this time… well, it’s probably going to be worse. Maybe a lot worse.”

He didn’t stop there, making it clear that he doesn’t think much of Trump’s supporters. Kimmel suggested that many people who voted for Trump simply don’t have “common sense” or just don’t care about the issues that matter.

“I’m disappointed, and I know a lot of you are too,” he admitted to the audience. “I thought common sense would prevail. But for many people, this stuff just isn’t important. It’s not high on their list.”

Kimmel went on, “It was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him. And guess what? It was a bad night for everyone who voted for him, too. They just don’t realize it yet.”

In the weeks leading up to the election, Kimmel also made jokes encouraging Trump supporters to vote on the wrong day. “If you want to vote for Trump, vote late,” he quipped. “Like, Thursday or Friday.”

Despite Kimmel’s warnings about Trump’s supposed threat to democracy, critics have noted that it’s the Biden administration that recently sentenced a young man, Douglass Mackey, to prison over a joke. Mackey, a Trump supporter, made an online joke about Hillary Clinton supporters that got him into serious trouble, drawing criticism about double standards.

In the end, Kimmel’s tears reflect the deep divide in America, where even late-night hosts can’t seem to keep politics out of entertainment.
