Judge Rules Against Trump in Bragg Charges Dismissal Request

(DailyChive.com) – A New York judge has rejected Donald Trump’s argument that the charges against him should be dismissed due to presidential immunity. The decision, made by Judge Juan Merchan, is a major development in the case brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Donald Trump’s argument.

Trump’s legal team argued that the charges were invalid because of a Supreme Court ruling protecting presidents from lawsuits related to their official actions. But Merchan disagreed, stating the charges against Trump involve personal actions, not official presidential duties.

In his ruling, Merchan said, “The evidence relates entirely to unofficial conduct and does not fall under immunity protections.” He also noted that even if some actions were considered part of Trump’s presidential duties, they wouldn’t shield him from prosecution for falsifying business records. The judge emphasized that the evidence against Trump was strong enough to uphold the guilty verdict without undermining presidential powers. Immunity protections.

Trump’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, blasted the decision, calling it a violation of constitutional principles. He labeled the case part of a “witch hunt” designed to distract from Trump’s leadership and hinder his transition back into the presidency. “This lawless case should be dismissed immediately,” Cheung said, claiming it disrupts Trump’s ability to serve the nation.

The charges stem from a long investigation into alleged hush money payments made during Trump’s business dealings. Former Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance began the probe, which Bragg continued. Trump faces 34 counts of falsifying business records, and after a six-week trial, a jury found him guilty on all charges.

In response, Trump’s lawyers filed motions to dismiss the case, arguing that evidence from Trump’s presidency—like White House communications and his use of Twitter—was improperly included. They also claimed the case was politically motivated, saying it targeted Trump for his political beliefs and the movement he created.

Bragg has asked the court to delay proceedings until after Trump’s second term, a suggestion Trump’s attorneys dismissed as absurd. They argued it would set a dangerous precedent for handling cases against presidents. A dangerous precedent.

This case, like many involving Trump, continues to draw national attention and controversy. Stay tuned as legal battles over presidential powers and accountability unfold.
