(DailyChive.com) – Vice President Kamala Harris’s 2024 campaign recently attempted to blame former President Donald Trump for the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, even though the pullout occurred seven months after Trump left office. Harris’s team claimed that Trump left them with “zero plans for an orderly withdrawal,” calling the situation a “dangerous, costly mess” Harris’s team claimed that Trump left them with “zero plans for an orderly withdrawal”.
Trump had started negotiations with the Taliban, reaching a deal, but it wasn’t fully executed by the time he left office in January 2021. When President Biden took office, he chose to continue with the withdrawal despite advice from military experts he chose to continue with the withdrawal despite advice from military experts. Biden set the withdrawal deadline for September 2021, but in August, the Taliban swiftly seized control of Kabul, overthrowing the U.S.-backed Afghan government. This sudden collapse triggered mass panic, as thousands of Americans, foreign nationals, and Afghans desperately tried to escape.
The remaining U.S. troops in Kabul, along with hundreds of reinforcements, were tasked with managing the withdrawal and leading a massive evacuation effort. They faced intense pressure while operating from the Kabul International Airport, which was surrounded by Taliban forces. Tragically, during the final days of the operation, a suicide bomber attacked the airport, killing 13 American service members. Adding to the tragedy, a U.S. drone strike mistakenly targeted a humanitarian aid worker and his family, killing several, including children.
Despite the widespread criticism, the Biden administration has remained unapologetic about the handling of the withdrawal. Neither President Biden nor Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has expressed any regrets over how events unfolded.
When Trump attended a ceremony honoring the 13 service members who died, Harris’s campaign accused him of politicizing the event. However, the families of the fallen soldiers had invited Trump to attend and permitted him to film the event. In response, the families voiced their anger at the Harris campaign for their remarks the families voiced their anger at the Harris campaign for their remarks.
While some Republicans agree that Trump’s deal with the Taliban was flawed, the Biden administration had the option to revise it but instead chose to proceed with their own strategy. Critics have called Harris’s attempt to shift blame onto Trump misleading, stating that the facts don’t align with her claims.
