Massive Migrant Caravan of 2000 Heading for U.S. Border

(DailyChive.com) – A caravan of about 2,000 migrants is traveling from southern Mexico toward the U.S. border, just weeks before the presidential election between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. The group, made up of people from Venezuela, Haiti, Honduras, and parts of Africa, started their journey on Sunday from Tapachula, a city near Mexico’s border with Guatemala.

Many migrants seem to be rushing toward the U.S. because they fear the Biden-Harris administration might lose the election. They worry that a new administration would put stricter border policies in place.

“That is what makes us afraid,” explained Joel Zambrano, a migrant from Venezuela. He mentioned concerns that services like the CBP One appointment system, which helps migrants, could be shut down if the government changes after the election.

This caravan’s arrival comes as immigration remains a top issue for American voters. Many recent polls suggest that most voters feel Kamala Harris has not made her position on illegal immigration clear enough. Her handling of the issue has drawn significant criticism, especially after a record-breaking rise in illegal crossings under her watch.

Recently, Harris has shifted her stance to focus more on border security. In campaign ads, she even showed images of the border wall built during Trump’s presidency, portraying herself as a “border state prosecutor” committed to protecting the border. At a rally in Arizona, she said, “Those who cross our borders unlawfully will be caught, removed, and banned from returning for five years.”

Since Biden and Harris took office in 2021, over 10 million people have crossed the U.S. border, with 1.7 million crossing illegally without being detained. This surge has strained cities and states across the country, making it harder to provide enough housing and social services. Big cities like Chicago, Illinois, and smaller towns like Springfield, Ohio, are struggling to manage the influx of migrants and their needs.

With the election fast approaching, the migrant crisis will remain a key issue, and both candidates are trying to shape their immigration policies in ways that appeal to concerned voters.
