(DailyChive.com) – Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace of South Carolina has won her primaries for the state’s 1st Congressional District.
Mace came into the spotlight last year when she and seven other conservative lawmakers joined hands with Democrats to oust the former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Although Mace always had a strong possibility of securing the GOP nomination, she faced severe criticism from pro-McCarthy conservatives, who backed her primary competitor, Catherine Templeton. The presence of the third candidate also increased the possibility of the race going into the runoff elections.
However, Mace won the endorsement of former president Donald Trump, which helped her secure a victory over Templeton with more than 13,000 votes.
At the time of endorsement, Trump wrote on Truth Social that Mace helped him win the Republican presidential primary election by a landslide margin of 20%, adding that she is fighting for the interests of American people in Congress by challenging the extremist agendas of the Democratic party.
She will now face Democratic candidate Michael Moore, who has also won his primary elections and promises to oust Mace from the district. The seat remains a stronghold for Republicans, and Mace is expected to secure her second term later this year.
Mace has also announced to support Donald Trump for the presidency, although she slammed him during his presidency and blamed him for many troubles in the country.
Political experts believe that Mace tilted towards Trump after the 2020 elections fallout and the January 6 Congress chaos that followed.
Mace now believes that the performance of President Joe Biden in the last four years has opened the eyes of many voters who now rally behind the former president.
She claimed that the country was in a much better situation under Trump when the inflation was low, the economy was booming, and the world was free from the wars it is seeing today.
Republican congressman Matt Gaetz, who led the effort to oust McCarthy, also congratulated Mace.
