Nancy Pelosi Receives Presidential Medal of Freedom

(DailyChive.com) – Nineteen notable individuals, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Joe Biden on May 3.

Biden claimed that Pelosi would be remembered as the greatest House Speaker in history books. She is the only woman to date to serve as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

As she received the medal, Pelosi praised Biden and called him the “patriotic president.” She stated that the founding fathers envisioned freedom for all of us and that freedom is now being protected by our security forces.

Al Gore, who served as a vice president under Bill Clinton and lost the 2000 presidential race to George W. Bush, also received the medal for his climate activism.

Similarly, Biden’s former climate czar, John Kerry, who lost the 2004 Presidential elections on the Democratic ticket, also received the Medal of Freedom. Kerry is currently working on Biden’s reelection campaign.

Other recipients of the Medal of Freedom included the so-called “grandmother of Juneteenth” Opal Lee, former mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg, priest Gregory J. Boyle, Rep. James Clyburn, former Secretary of Transportation Elizabeth Dole, journalist Phil Donahue, late civil right activist Medgar Wiley Evers, late five-time Senator Frank R. Lautenberg, Olympic gold medalist swimmer Kathleen Genevieve Ledecky, former NASA director Ellen Ochoa, civil rights movement leader Clarence B. Jones, astronomer Jane Rigby, labor union activist Teresa Romero, LGBTQ rights activist Judy Shepard, first-ever native American Olympic gold medalist late James Francis Thorpe, and the famed Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh.

Biden stated that all the recipients of the medal showed exceptional traits over the years, and their exemplary work in their respective fields speaks volumes about their participation in the progress of this country and the world.

Talking specifically about Rep. Clyburn, Biden stated that he is indebted to the congressman for his 2020 endorsement as he would never have won the presidency without his backing in South Carolina.
