(DailyChive.com) – Nikki Haley, the former U.N. Ambassador, scored a significant victory in her presidential campaign by winning her first Republican Party primary in Washington, D.C., surpassing former President Donald Trump.
According to the Associated Press, Haley decisively secured the D.C. Republican primary with 63% of the vote, compared to Trump’s 33%, with nearly all ballots counted. While Trump has previously won in other states, Haley’s triumph in the nation’s capital stands out as a notable achievement in her bid for the presidency.
Haley’s campaign celebrated the victory on social media, praising her as the first woman to win a Republican primary in U.S. history. Despite Trump leading in polls and winning in various states nationwide, Haley remains committed to staying in the race through Super Tuesday, buoyed by solid fundraising efforts.
Responding to the outcome, the Trump Campaign emphasized the significance of the results, aligning them with President Trump’s objectives to “drain the swamp” and prioritize America’s interests. They labeled Haley as the “Queen of the Swamp,” asserting that lobbyists and insiders supported her victory. Trump’s campaign reiterated his dedication to fighting for Americans that Washington insiders neglected and what they perceive as Joe Biden’s shortcomings.
Despite her victory in D.C., Haley trails significantly behind Trump in national polls, with Trump amassing 244 delegates compared to Haley’s 43. Trump’s campaign anticipates nearing the Republican Party nomination after the upcoming Super Tuesday states vote, especially following the North Dakota caucus on Monday.
Following her win, the former president criticized Haley on social media, referring to the D.C. vote as the “Swamp” and downplaying its significance due to its minimal delegate count. He highlighted recent victories in other states and expressed confidence in his campaign’s momentum heading into Super Tuesday. Trump also labeled Haley as a “Birdbrain,” referencing what he described as her poor performance in numerous states and her loss to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Following a series of crushing losses on Super Tuesday, Haley dropped out of the race. With her exit, it seems the rematch between former President Donald Trump and Joe Biden is now set in stone.
