Rapper Lil Durk Faces Charges in Murder-for-Hire Case

(DailyChive.com) – Late Thursday night, U.S. Marshals arrested Chicago rapper Lil Durk in Florida, linking him to a serious murder-for-hire scheme. Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, was booked into the Broward County Jail before the official charges were announced.

The Grammy-winning rapper, 32, has a history of connections to Chicago’s Democratic political players. He’s also had multiple run-ins with the law over the years. This recent arrest comes after an indictment targeting members of his hip-hop crew, “Only the Family” (OTF), which includes five other men. The indictment, unsealed in a federal court in Los Angeles, accuses Banks and his team of plotting to kill fellow rapper Quando Rondo.

Chicago’s WGN 9 reported on the full charges, which range from conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, murder-for-hire resulting in death, and using firearms in violent crimes. The indictment names the following members of Banks’ group: Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston. Prosecutors allege they planned and executed a violent scheme, with deadly results.

Interestingly, Banks has been under scrutiny before. Earlier this month, he faced a civil lawsuit in Chicago linked to the 2020 shooting of Chicago rapper FBG Duck, who was killed outside a Gold Coast store. Although Banks hasn’t faced criminal charges in that case, the lawsuit alleges he had a role in the incident, which further clouds his public image.

In 2019, Banks was charged with attempted murder following a shooting in Atlanta. That case, however, was dropped two years later, leaving fans and critics to wonder whether the rapper is often in the wrong place at the wrong time or part of a darker world.

Despite these controversies, Banks has managed to reach impressive heights in the music industry. At 33, he’s racked up four Grammy nominations, even taking home an award earlier this year for his hit “All My Life” featuring J. Cole. His popularity on the U.S. Billboard charts is undeniable, with six albums reaching the top five since 2019. He’s also collaborated with stars like Drake and J. Cole, making him one of the most recognized voices in hip-hop today.

Lil Durk’s recent arrest brings his future into question. For now, fans, the courts, and the media will be watching closely as the case unfolds.
