Resurfaced Video Shows Harris Chanting Against Deportation

(DailyChive.com) – In 2018, then-Senator Kamala Harris was seen in a video chanting “down, down with deportation” during a parade in Los Angeles. This footage recently resurfaced, showing Harris at the Kingdom Day Parade, where she was the Grand Marshal. In the clip, she smiles and claps along as she joins a crowd chanting, “up, up with education, down, down with deportation.”

This event happened during a time when Harris was pushing for more left-wing policies on immigration. She supported ideas that included expanding protections for undocumented immigrants, like the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Harris even promised to remove certain restrictions to make it easier for immigrants brought to the U.S. as children to stay in the country.

The video also includes actor Jussie Smollett, who later made headlines after being convicted of staging a fake attack and lying about it. At the time, Harris had defended Smollett, calling the supposed attack an “attempted modern-day lynching.” Her quick support of Smollett drew some criticism after his story unraveled.

As Harris moved forward in her political career, especially during her run for president in 2019, she took strong stances on immigration, even promising to use executive orders to help more immigrants stay in the U.S. However, things have changed since then. Now, as Vice President, Harris has adjusted her views on immigration.

Her campaign for the 2024 election has been much more moderate on immigration, reflecting her role in the Biden administration. For example, Harris has supported policies to increase border security, including more funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and programs to limit how many people can seek asylum in the U.S.

Harris’s shift in position reflects the difficult balance politicians often face between satisfying their base and addressing the country’s real-world challenges. Her spokesperson has said that Harris’s new stance comes from years of experience and “effective governance.” They argue that her approach is practical, aiming for bipartisan solutions on tough issues like immigration.
