(DailyChive.com) – Senate Majority Leader and New York Democrat Chuck Schumer accused Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump on August 20 of antisemitism and being the main reason behind its rise in the country. During a speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois, the liberal leader said that Trump has been spreading anti-Jewish propaganda over the last few years.
Schumer also said that a piece of evidence that shows the former president’s antisemitism was the fact that he “invited” Nick Fuentes to his mansion in Mar-a-Lago in Florida. The Senate Majority Leader said that Fuentes wasn’t only an antisemite and a conspiracy theorist but also a “white supremacist.”
Following those remarks, many journalists and political commentators blasted Schumer on social media, claiming that the liberal leader wasn’t telling “the whole story.” While Fuentes was at Trump’s mansion, some media outlets revealed he wasn’t invited to the dinner between the former president and rapper Kanye West, and explained that the conservative leader didn’t even know who Fuentes was.
During his speech, Schumer claimed that he was scared that his grandchildren were going to be raised in a country that discriminate people because of their color or their religion, and said that Trump was to blame for it. He said that the Republican leader has been a man who likes to peddle “antisemitic stereotypes” whenever he can.
Despite his accusations against the former commander-in-chief, numerous organizations and independent investigations have shown that the United States has experienced a severe rise of antisemitism during the Biden administration. While there have been some cases of far-right organizations committing antisemitic acts, most of the rise of antisemitism started after the terrorist attack perpetrated by the Palestinian Jihadi organization Hamas against Israel on October 7, 2023.
Following the attack, the Israeli government announced a military operation against Hamas, which prompted numerous protests from liberal and progressive groups across the country, with thousands of cases of antisemitic actions and comments.
