Scottie Scheffler’s Charges From PGA Arrest Could Be Dismissed

(DailyChive.com) – Kentucky prosecutors are likely to drop charges against world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler, who was allegedly arrested for driving around traffic control and not following the instructions of the on-duty traffic control officer at the site of the PGA golf tournament.

Scheffler faced multiple charges, including assaulting a police officer and criminal mischief, among others.

At the time of the incident, law enforcement was blocking the road due to the earlier traffic accident, where a PGA volunteer was run over by a shuttle bus. However, the golf star, seemingly unaware of the accident, continued driving his car and violated the law in the process.

The golfer continued driving even when the officer attached himself to the side of his vehicle. This resulted in the injury of the officer, who was later taken to the hospital.

Sources close to the prosecutors believe that the attorney’s office is thinking of dropping the charges against Scheffler for the time being.

However, according to Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell, his office has yet to make a final decision about the fate of the golfer as the prosecutors continue to gather evidence.

Louisville mayor Craig Greenberg revealed that the police officer had his body camera off during the incident, which makes it difficult to revisit what happened at the scene.

The police are also investigating whether required protocols were followed during the arrest, as the law mandates that officers’ cameras remain operational and ready for use while on duty.

According to the police, they will be completely transparent if they find any breach of protocol during the arrest.

Scheffler, meanwhile, believes that the whole episode only happened due to a “misunderstanding,” adding that he never meant to disobey any officer.

The top golfer also expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased man.

The ESPN reporter, Jeff Darlington, who was present at the scene and witnessed the whole event, stated that an officer who was dragged by the golfer arrested him and put him in handcuffs before taking him to the police vehicle.
