(DailyChive.com) – The parents of Donald Trump’s would-be assassin, Thomas Matthew Crooks, reported to police hours before the shooting incident that their son was missing and that they were concerned about his safety.
It remains unclear what actions law enforcement took after receiving the complaint and whether the parents knew that Crooks was carrying his father’s AR-15, which he used in the assassination attempt.
Investigators also revealed that Crooks would have been present at his job on a regular Saturday but took a day off from his workplace on the day of the shooting after telling his boss that he had “something to do.” He also told his colleagues at the local nursing home that he would be back at work on Sunday.
Both of Crooks’ parents have been registered professional counselors in Pennsylvania since 2002 and recently renewed their social work licenses.
Crooks and his father, Matthew Crooks, also had the membership of a local gun club. His father is a registered libertarian, while his mother is a Democrat. Crooks registered as a Republican but donated $15 to a liberal cause in 2021.
His former school friends revealed that he was usually an introvert but would discuss politics and math in great detail. Some of his friends called him a “loner” who would prefer to sit alone during lunch, while others described him as a great student in math and science.
Almost three hours before the shooting, Crooks first became a person of interest when he passed through the magnetometers carrying a rangefinder, which is typically used to measure distances for long-range shooting. Investigators revealed that a law enforcement official kept an eye on Crooks after this incident until he left the secured area.
The Secret Service was aware of a suspicious person near the rally venue at least 20 minutes before the shooting incident. Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle told Congress that her agency is still unaware of how Crooks accessed the rooftop from which he took aim at the former president.
