(DailyChive.com) – Sylvester Stallone recently faced a backlash over plans to build an underwater barrier near his $35 million Palm Beach home. The famous “Rocky” actor had hoped to create what he called a “sanctuary” to protect the area from debris and seaweed. However, his proposal stirred strong opposition from neighbors, environmental concerns, and safety experts.
Stallone, 78, attended a Palm Beach Town Council meeting alongside his wife, Jennifer Flavin Stallone, to address the issue. During the meeting, he acknowledged the community’s frustrations and stressed that his intentions weren’t driven by vanity. “We wanted to bring back this sanctuary,” Stallone explained, adding that the project aimed to improve the area rather than serve as a personal luxury.
Despite his efforts, neighbors and officials were not convinced. One retired Army general raised safety concerns, pointing out that the barrier could block boaters and create dangerous situations. Another resident argued it would only trap trash and push it downstream, worsening the problem. Council President Bobbie Lindsay lightheartedly remarked, “It’s tough being so famous,” before suggesting Stallone work with local authorities on better solutions.
Ultimately, Stallone withdrew his application during the meeting, seemingly accepting that the community wasn’t on board with the plan.
The barrier proposal had also raised questions from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Army Corps of Engineers. Concerns included potential harm to marine life, such as manatees, and effects on seagrasses. Public records showed that Stallone had applied for the project earlier in 2023, and feedback on the proposal had been ongoing since October.
Stallone purchased his sprawling waterfront property in 2021. The estate boasts 1.5 acres, over 13,000 square feet of living space, seven bedrooms, and 12 bathrooms. With its dock and private beach, it’s easy to see why Stallone would want to protect the area. However, as one neighbor put it, “You can’t just stake your claim and think you own the water.”
For now, Stallone seems to have accepted the decision, choosing to work with his neighbors rather than against them.
