(DailyChive.com) – Actor and filmmaker Sylvester Stallone took to the stage at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) Gala on Thursday night to introduce President-elect Donald Trump. Stallone, famous for his role as the underdog boxer in Rocky, kept his speech short but memorable, dubbing Trump the “second George Washington.”
Stallone was the final speaker of the evening at Mar-a-Lago, delivering his remarks in just two minutes before Trump made his entrance. Starting with a nod to his iconic character, Rocky Balboa, Stallone compared Rocky’s resilience and transformation to what he sees in Trump.
“Rocky went through a metamorphosis and changed lives, just like President Trump,” Stallone said. He then described Trump as a “mythical character,” marveling at his ability to achieve the seemingly impossible. “Nobody in the world could have pulled off what he pulled off, so I’m in awe,” Stallone added.
In a bold statement, Stallone likened Trump to George Washington, the nation’s first president, highlighting his impact on America and the world. “When George Washington defended his country, he had no idea he was going to change the world,” Stallone said. “Without him, can you imagine what the world would look like? Guess what? We’ve got the second George Washington. Congratulations!”
As Stallone wrapped up his remarks, Lee Greenwood’s patriotic anthem “God Bless the U.S.A.” filled the room. Trump then walked onto the stage to a warm handshake and brief words of thanks exchanged with the actor.
While Stallone has largely kept his political views private, his praise for Trump isn’t entirely new. In a 2016 interview with Variety, Stallone admitted his admiration for Trump, calling him a larger-than-life figure, akin to icons like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Babe Ruth. However, Stallone also expressed some hesitation at the time, saying, “I don’t know how that translates to running the world.”
Interestingly, Stallone has also admitted to sitting out the 2016 and 2020 elections, making his appearance at the AFPI Gala noteworthy. Whatever his voting record, the actor’s speech clearly captured the crowd’s attention and left no doubt about his admiration for Trump’s leadership.
