(DailyChive.com) – Whoopi Goldberg stirred the pot on The View Monday, jumping to President Biden’s defense after her co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin criticized him for pardoning his son, Hunter Biden. Griffin’s complaint? She felt Biden had “lied” to the public after repeatedly saying he wouldn’t issue the pardon.
Griffin didn’t hold back. “I take issue with lying about it. When Biden came on The View, I wanted to ask him why he insisted he wouldn’t pardon Hunter. Then he goes and does it. To me, that’s a big deal. It’s disappointing, and it makes people lose trust in Washington. It’s why so many don’t believe in politicians,” she said. “I get it—he’s a dad. But why lie for so long?”
Goldberg wasn’t having it. “I’d stop calling it a lie,” she snapped.
Earlier on Sunday, President Biden announced his decision to pardon Hunter, despite his earlier claims that he wouldn’t intervene. The move sparked immediate controversy, with critics saying it undermines public trust. For Griffin, it was a reminder of a system that seems to work for the powerful while leaving regular Americans behind. “What kind of message does this send?” she asked. “Half the country already doesn’t trust Biden. Now this just adds fuel to the fire.”
Goldberg pushed back hard, turning the focus to former President Donald Trump. “We’ve elected someone before who bent all the rules. He didn’t even have a drug problem; he just knew how to work the system. So, maybe Biden saw that and thought, ‘Why should I play by rules no one else follows?’”
To Goldberg, Biden likely changed his mind after seeing the political chaos of recent years. Griffin still wasn’t convinced. “I just wish he’d been upfront,” she said.
Biden defended his decision in a statement, calling his son’s prosecution unfair. “From day one, I vowed not to interfere with the Justice Department, and I kept that promise. But I’ve also seen my son singled out and exploited for political gain.”
The debate on The View may not settle this issue, but one thing’s clear: pardoning Hunter Biden has opened yet another chapter in the ongoing divide over trust, power, and fairness in politics.
