Three Marshals, One Suspect Dead; Five Officers Wounded

(DailyChive.com) – Eight law enforcement officials were shot in North Carolina in their line of duty, resulting in four deaths and four injuries.

The unfortunate incident happened in Charlotte, North Carolina, on April 30 when the US Marshal Task Force tried to serve a warrant to a convicted felon carrying a firearm. However, the felon opened fire on the officers, which started a tense standoff that resulted in the loss of important lives.

The police reported that the initial gunfire killed some officers, prompting additional police personnel to rush to the scene where they encountered another round of attacks, presumably from a second suspect.

The police believed there were multiple shooters involved, as bullets were coming from various directions.

The standoff continued for nearly three hours, after which law enforcement decided to go all out on the suspects. They smashed armored vehicles into the house and broke the windows and doorways.

Three US Marshals Task Force officers died at the scene, while one Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officer later succumbed to his injuries. All the injured officers were transported to a nearby hospital. The police also discovered a 17-year-old boy and a woman in the house, both of whom are under investigation.

Police also urged locals to remain indoors and directed citizens to use alternative routes as the area was sealed for fast ambulance service.

Nicole Parker, a former FBI special agent, praised the bravery of the US Marshal Task Force officials, stating that these people do not know if they will ever come back to their homes. She added that law enforcement officers do not draw high salaries but still put their bodies on the line, so they deserve every bit of respect.

CMPD Chief Johny Jennings identified the deceased officer of his department as Joshua Eyer, who had recently received the April Officer of the Month award.

One suspect, who was later identified as Terry Clark Hughes Jr., was also found dead at the end of the standoff.
