(DailyChive.com) – A CNN host broke ranks with his network and admitted he believes former President Donald Trump has an advantage over Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential race in November, claiming the reason is that the former president has a clearer policy plan.
On Friday, Aug. 23, political commentator and CNN host Michael Smerconish appeared for a roundtable live on the network and said if the presidential race was “about personality, Trump would lose, but that if it’s about policy, he “probably wins.”
Smerconish said that when looking at the data and when asking people about Trump’s record while in office compared to the Biden-Harris administration, more of them look back on the Trump years “favorably.” The CNN host added that Trump would still have to “rein in his worst instincts” to have the election in the bag and accused the former president of deviating “too much from the script” when it looks like his audience is “getting bored.”
Many of Trump’s supporters like this about him, of course, and view Trump’s deviation from the script as authentic and relatable while Harris continued avoiding interviews and the press entirely. Smerconish said that he felt the Republican Convention (RNC) went “great” and was “note-perfect” in its messaging, adding the same applied to the Democrats and their convention.
The CNN host told his colleagues that there was still a “margin of error” in the race and it was “still up in the air.” He also pointed out that another “twist” may be down the road between now and November.
Smerconish didn’t let Harris off easy on her lack of media interactions either. He urged the vice president to speak to more journalists and answer their questions. The CNN host said the Democratic candidate must sustain her “momentum” and that it “rankles” him that she promised to do a formal interview by the end of August and still hasn’t done so. He said he also must frustrate Trump to see her “ascendance” without having to answer any questions about her policy plans.
Trump and Harris have agreed to debate one another, and that’s what most Americans want to see happen before the contest in November in order to get a better idea of who the Democrats are offering in response to the former president, who has been on a media blitz ever since surviving an assassination attempt on July 13.
