(DailyChive.com) – President-elect Donald Trump has chosen Brooke Rollins to serve as his next agriculture secretary. The announcement came on Saturday, with Trump praising Rollins for her deep connection to farming and her passion for supporting America’s agricultural communities.
“Brooke Rollins has shown her dedication to American farmers, food security, and the revival of small agricultural towns,” Trump said in his statement. He highlighted her strong background in agriculture, noting her degree in agricultural development from Texas A&M University and her roots in Glen Rose, Texas, a small farming town. Rollins also has a law degree and years of experience in both nonprofit work and government leadership.
Trump described Rollins as someone with “real-world farming experience” and pointed out her involvement in 4-H, Future Farmers of America, and her family’s farming traditions. He also mentioned her work guiding her children in their cattle-raising activities, which further shows her hands-on understanding of farming life. “American farmers are the backbone of our country,” Trump said, adding that he’s confident Rollins will fight to protect them.
Rollins, who is currently the head of the America First Policy Institute, brings both policy expertise and personal farming knowledge to the role. She previously worked in the Trump administration, serving as director of the Office of American Innovation and as acting director of the Domestic Policy Council.
Her selection was somewhat unexpected. Former Senator Kelly Loeffler had been rumored as a potential pick for the role, but Trump ultimately chose Rollins. She had also been mentioned as a possible candidate for White House chief of staff, a position that later went to Susie Wiles.
If confirmed by the Senate, Rollins will oversee the Department of Agriculture, a massive agency with over 100,000 employees and offices in every U.S. county. The department handles a wide range of issues, including farming, food safety, forestry, and rural development. Its 2024 budget was over $437 billion, making it one of the government’s largest agencies.
Trump’s pick signals a focus on grassroots farming and rural revival, keeping his administration’s promises to support America’s heartland.
