(DailyChive.com) – President-elect Donald Trump has named Chris Wright, the founder and CEO of Liberty Energy, as his pick for Secretary of Energy. The announcement signals Trump’s focus on reshaping U.S. energy policy to prioritize domestic production and reduce government regulation.
“I am thrilled to have Chris Wright join my administration as Energy Secretary and as a member of the Council of National Energy,” Trump said in a statement on Saturday. “Chris has been a leading technologist and entrepreneur in energy, working across nuclear, solar, geothermal, and oil and gas. Most importantly, he helped launch the American Shale Revolution, which restored energy independence and reshaped global energy markets.”
Wright expressed his gratitude on social media, writing, “I’m honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve our country as U.S. Secretary of Energy. My focus remains on making American energy more affordable, reliable, and secure. Energy is the lifeblood of our society, and I look forward to getting to work.”
A graduate of MIT with a degree in mechanical engineering, Wright also studied electrical engineering at UC Berkeley and MIT. His company’s website describes him as a “tech nerd turned entrepreneur” who is dedicated to expanding access to affordable and reliable energy to improve lives worldwide.
Trump’s choice reflects his broader energy agenda, a cornerstone of his campaign. He has vowed to expand domestic oil and gas production, roll back regulations introduced during the Biden administration, and withdraw from the Paris climate agreement. On the campaign trail, Trump emphasized the importance of restoring industries like coal, steel, and manufacturing, which he says have been undermined by current policies.
“Biden’s administration destroyed your steel mills, coal jobs, and energy independence while selling our manufacturing to China,” Trump said at a recent rally in Pennsylvania. He also pledged to end restrictions on liquefied natural gas exports and increase fracking to drive economic growth and job creation.
Trump’s cabinet announcements are progressing faster than during his first term, signaling a focused effort to hit the ground running. His team has described these picks as a reflection of his commitment to an “America First” agenda, aiming to deliver on campaign promises quickly and efficiently.
