(DailyChive.com) – Vice President Kamala Harris’ team has explained why she didn’t sit down for an interview with podcast host Joe Rogan during her campaign. According to her aides, the conflict arose from scheduling issues and the fact that former President Donald Trump appeared on Rogan’s podcast around the same time.
Stephanie Cutter, a senior campaign adviser, discussed the situation on the “Pod Save America” podcast. “We talked with Joe Rogan’s team—they were great. We wanted to make it happen, but we just couldn’t find a date that worked,” Cutter said. She added that Harris gave a speech at a major event in Houston instead.
The Houston event, held in late October, featured singer Beyoncé, who publicly endorsed Harris. Meanwhile, Trump spent the same day in Austin, Texas, taping a three-hour-long interview with Rogan. Harris’ aides had hoped to schedule her podcast appearance while the campaign was in Texas, as Rogan’s studio is located in Austin. However, Cutter explained that the opportunity didn’t pan out.
“As it turns out, Trump was taping his interview that day, though his team never told us,” Cutter said. “Kamala was ready and willing to do the show, but we just couldn’t make it fit.”
David Plouffe, another senior adviser on Harris’ team, suggested that Rogan’s camp may have used the Harris campaign’s interest in the podcast to secure Trump’s appearance. Plouffe stated that they offered to appear on Rogan’s show in Austin, but after Trump’s interview, scheduling conflicts prevented them from making it back to Texas.
Rogan has expressed disappointment over the missed opportunity, saying he had hoped to interview Harris before the election. “I gave them an open invitation,” Rogan said. “She had a chance to come here while in Texas, but it didn’t happen.”
Some Democratic staffers reportedly expressed concerns about how the interview might be perceived within the party, especially as Rogan had drawn criticism for his controversial remarks. Jennifer Palmieri, an adviser to Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, noted that internal backlash played a role in the decision. Rogan later endorsed Trump’s campaign, adding another layer of tension to the situation.
Additionally, Rogan speculated that Harris may have been avoiding discussions about marijuana legalization, a topic he frequently addresses.
Whether Harris will appear on Rogan’s podcast in the future remains unclear. For now, it seems this missed connection was more about timing and politics than unwillingness.
