Zelensky Under Fire for Alleged Interference in Pennsylvania Election

(DailyChive.com) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is facing accusations of “election interference” after a visit to Pennsylvania, a key battleground state, where he appeared with prominent Democrats. Zelensky’s stop at the Scranton Army Ammunition Plant came shortly after he criticized former President Donald Trump and Ohio Senator J.D. Vance in an interview with The New Yorker.

Zelensky expressed doubt about Trump’s ability to end the ongoing war in Ukraine, saying, “My feeling is that Trump doesn’t really know how to stop the war, even if he thinks he does.” He also labeled Vance’s suggestion that Ukraine should give up some of its territory to Russia as “too radical.” Zelensky dismissed Vance’s comments but noted that Trump had shown support for Ukraine in the past.

After his remarks, Zelensky traveled to Pennsylvania aboard a U.S. Air Force jet, where he was welcomed by Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro. He also met with Senator Bob Casey and Congressman Matt Cartwright, both Democrats from Pennsylvania. In a social media post, Zelensky shared that his visit included a tour of the ammunition plant, which produces artillery shells used by Ukraine in its defense against Russia. He praised the plant’s workers and emphasized the importance of American support for Ukraine.

Some critics argue that Zelensky’s visit and comments amounted to interfering in U.S. politics, especially in a state that will play a critical role in the upcoming presidential election. Byron York of the Washington Examiner called it “election interference,” and Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale echoed these concerns on social media, accusing Democrats of using military resources to help Zelensky “campaign” in Pennsylvania.

In his interview with The New Yorker, Zelensky warned that leaders who suggest surrendering land to aggressors are setting a dangerous precedent. He linked such ideas to the causes of World War II, urging Vance to study history. “Might makes right” is not a philosophy the world can afford to follow, Zelensky argued, adding that such thinking could lead to more global conflicts.
