Pelosi Questions Supreme Court’s Legitimacy, Claims They’ve Gone Rogue

(DailyChive.com) – In the midst of the Supreme Court’s ethical scandals, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) criticized the court and questioned if Chief Justice John Roberts had “gone rogue.”

Speaking with Anderson Cooper on Monday night, the CNN host asked if she had faith in the Supreme Court. She said briefly, “No.”

Pelosi disagrees with many of the court’s recent decisions, which has prompted her to cast doubt on the court’s legitimacy.

Over the last year, the Supreme Court has been under intense scrutiny due to a number of investigations that exposed some justices’ dubious extrajudicial activities, including secret luxury vacations and other items that many consider bribes rather than gifts.

The stories aroused a need for legislative monitoring of the judges’ actions and the offerings they receive. Democrats in the Senate have long advocated for more monitoring of the Supreme Court.

Reports of two flags flying over Alito’s houses intensified the pressure, with one flag flown upside down over his Alexandria, Virginia, household in the days leading up to the attack on the Capitol and President Biden’s inauguration on January 6, 2021.

According to Pelosi, the justices have turned political; it’s “okay” for them to have an opinion on the right to choose a woman, but it’s not their job to advocate for that position. She reminded them that they pledged to protect the Constitution and urged that they seek election to Congress if they wish to have a say in legislation. That, in her view, was disregarded, and the judges instead cast votes based on “their opinion on policy.”

Pelosi continued, saying that the three branches of government should be honored universally, just as our founders intended. But, she must admit that she lacks faith in this particular court, and her heart is heavy when she says that.

To ensure that they ignite voters who believe a woman has the right to choose, the Democrats have made abortion a central topic in their campaigns.

The conservative justices nominated by Trump were the determining factor in the Dobbs case, and they are stepping up their attempts to codify abortion rights as the 2024 presidential race looms on the horizon.

As the Biden-Harris campaign announced plans to hold more than 50 events nationwide to commemorate the anniversary of the decision to overturn federal abortion rights, Vice President Kamala Harris issued an urgent warning to Democrats last week in an Atlanta speech, stating that “everything is at stake” with reproductive rights.

As her segment with Anderson Cooper came to a close, Pelosi said it is her desire for the Supreme Court to get back to its original intent as laid down by the Founders. Abortion, however, is not mentioned in the constitution.
