(DailyChive.com) – A tragic event unfolded at a shopping center in Lilburn, Georgia, where a man killed a woman which police believed was his wife and injured her new husband before shooting himself in the head.
The violence erupted on April 27 at the Merchants Walk Plaza, which resulted in law enforcement rushing to the crime scene.
According to Lilburn Police, a 62-year-old man entered Tana Food Mart with a pistol and engaged in a conversation with the victims, both of whom worked in the same store.
As the conversation unfolded, the suspect pulled out his weapon and shot the 57-year-old woman, who police initially stated was his former wife, and a 63-year-old man, who was the new husband of the woman. After that, he shot himself in the head.
While the female who was shot multiple times died, the injured male victim who was shot in the leg and the suspect were transported to Northside Gwinnett Hospital.
On Tuesday April 30, the police revealed that the shooter has been charged with murder.
Both the male victim and the suspect are likely to recover. The shooter is expected to be transported to the Gwinnett County jail after being discharged from the hospital.
Initially, the police did not reveal the identities of all three individuals involved. However, on April 30, the police confirmed that the deceased woman was Tigist Lulesegd and the shooter was his former brother-in-law. The shooting was an incident of domestic violence, and the public was not in danger, the police added.
After knowing about the shooting event, investigators rushed to the scene and secured the area on the night of Saturday April 27, gathered evidence, and collected statements. They talked with some eyewitnesses and checked surveillance footage but did not reach any conclusion.
Some graphic footage of the incident circulated on social media after the shooting, showing other employees of the mart and shoppers running to safety, believing it to be a mass shooting event.
